An Indian father's life has been transformed after he found a diamond worth 60,000 while working his land.
Lakhan Yadav, 45, came across the 14.98-carat rock while digging on land he began renting last month in Madhya Pradesh.
Yadav nearly mistook the precious gem for a pebble, but after rubbing the dirt off it he noticed that it shone differently.
He immediately took the rock to the district diamond officer where it was recognised and valued at over six million rupees.
The farmer sold the diamond at auction. 'It has changed my life,' he told the Times of India.
Yadav said he would put the money towards ensuring his children get a good education rather than 'anything big'.
The farmer had already bought a motorcycle, along with 2 hectares of land and two buffaloes with money he had received in compensation for his family being displaced by Panna National Park officials to make way for a tiger reserve.
'I bought the motorcycle because my nephews insisted. I was happy with my bicycle,' he told the publication.
Yadav said he won't stop there and intends to continue to look for diamonds on the patch of land.
I hope to get another diamond. Ill work on it for a few more months, perhaps get the lease renewed, he said.
