A woman faces life in jail for pouring boiling water onto her boyfriends groin after suspecting him of having an affair.

The scalding water caused burns to 12 per cent of the victims body and he was hospitalised for a month - left unable to work for almost six months.

Zareena Begum P A M Basheer Ahamed, 50, from Singapore, has been found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

The pair had a tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship since first getting together in 2006.

Suspicions of an affair began in 2015 - and in January 2017, Ahamed spotted her partner with another woman at a ferry terminal.

On July 4, 2017, Ahamed invited her boyfriend over to her house where they had a meal together and watched television.

After he fell asleep, she took his phone from his bag and saw text messages that the other woman had sent to him.

Furious, Ahamed decided she wanted to teach him a lesson that he would never forget, the prosecution said.

After boiling some hot water in the kitchen, she then proceeded to empty a cupful of it onto the victims groin.

He awoke to what he described as the worst pain hes ever felt in his life.

He took off his pants and underwear only to find his thighs were red on both sides.

The victim then confronted Ahamed, asking why she did this to him - and she allegedly replied that it served (him) right.

Womans defence

Ahamed said the incident was an accident and it was the mans fault that he suffered the injury.

She said she had wanted to drink the boiling water - and her boyfriend had pulled her arm and caused the water to spill.

But weeks after the incident, Ahamed allegedly taunted the victim by telling him to get his new girlfriend to get the aloe vera for his burns.

She is yet to be sentenced, but she faces life in jail or being jailed up to 15 years and fined.
